VFX (Visual Effects) is an umbrella term involving adding, altering, or enhancing video content with computer graphics and other techniques. It can transform or create entire scenes that go beyond live-action footage — such as fantastical creatures, explosions, or surreal environments. CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery), on the other hand, is a specific method within VFX. It focuses on producing digital elements like 3D models or characters, which may then be integrated into a larger VFX pipeline. Thus, while CGI is a key component of many VFX projects, not all CGI assets are necessarily used as full visual effects in live video footage.
